The S80, which is effectively the saloon variant of the V70, but is aimed at a different market sector, was introduced in late 2000. Although it is a comfortable and well-engineered car, it has a surprisingly low profile in a market dominated by the uniquitous BMW 5 Series, Jaguar S-Type and Audi A6. The advances made by its smaller stablemate, the new S40, also serve to keep its many virtues in the shade.
